On September 2, 2023, Yichang Qifan Cable Co., Ltd. successfully held the launching ceremony for the 220kV 3*630mm² Optical Fiber composite submarine cable for the China Huaneng Shandong North BW Offshore Wind Farm Project. With a single cable continuous length reaching 28.5 kilometers and a weight of nearly 4,000 tons, the cable will be transported via the Yangtze River to eastern coastal regions for use in offshore wind power construction.
The successful delivery of this cable marks a major technological breakthrough for Qifan Cable in the field of offshore wind power. The extra-high voltage submarine cable features a 26mm insulation thickness. The entire cable is continuously produced without any joints, placing its technology at the leading level in China. Currently, there are only a few domestic manufacturers capable of producing 220-kilovolt submarine cables. With this project, Qifan Cable has officially joined top submarine cable manufacturing team.
This achievement not only strengthens Qifan’s market position in the wire and cable industry but also brings significant economic benefits—adding an annual output value of 1 billion CNY to its submarine cable business. The company now has three submarine cable production lines, which can meet the production needs of different specifications of submarine cables.
The owner, China Huaneng Group, expressed its expectation to establish a deeper cooperation with Qifan Cable and jointly promote the construction of offshore wind power projects.
